# Understanding match score

Your **Match Score** is a powerful indicator that shows how closely your current skills align with the requirements of a specific role. This score helps you identify where you are strong and where there are opportunities for growth.

### How Your Match Score is Calculated

The platform compares your **Skills Profile** (from extracted CV or Singpass) against the **core & additional skills required** required for a role.

* **Skill Alignment**: The score reflects the percentage of mandatory skills you already possess.
* **Proficiency Matching**: It considers not just the existence of a skill, but whether your proficiency level meets the role's minimum requirements.
* **Gap Analysis**: Any missing core skills are flagged as "Skill Gaps," which are the primary factors used to lower a score from 100%.

### Match Score Indicators

In various modules like **Career Insights** or **Talent Attraction**, you will see labels that simplify your match status:

1. **🟢 Strong match**: Highly qualified/matched.
2. **🟡 Medium match**: Likely qualified/matched.
3. **🔴 Low match**: Unlikely to qualify/matched.

### Why It Matters

* **Strategic career planning:** Use match scores to evaluate your **Career Aspirations**. Seeing a "Strong" match for a dream role provides a clear roadmap of what to learn next.
* **Personalized learning:** The **Learn module** uses your match score to prioritize course recommendations that specifically target your identified skill gaps.
* **Talent attraction:** For hiring managers, match scores allow for objective, skills-based shortlisting of internal and external talent.

### How to Improve Your Score

1. **Update your skills profile:** Upload a most recent CV or reconnect your Singpass to ensure all new certifications are captured in [**<u>My Profile</u>**](https://app.betalented.ai/profile) page. Learn more
2. **Refine proficiency:** If you have gained new hands-on experience, manually update your proficiency levels in your [**<u>My Skill</u>**](https://app.betalented.ai/profile) page. Learn more
3. **Bridge the Gaps:** Enroll in courses recommended in the [**<u>Learn module</u>**](https://uat.betalented.ai/learn). Once completed, these skills are verified and added to your profile, directly boosting your match score.
